Electric Six - I Belong in a Factory from Kill

Dick Valentine and the boys are back with my favorite E6 album since Fire. Chock full of the absurdity and full stops that made me fall in love with them in the first place. Make sure to check out the tracks “Escape from Ohio,” and “Body Shot.”

In 1960, Joe Kittinger flew 30km straight up into the sky using a pressurized, high-altitude balloon. This very nearly made him the first man in space. He then jumped.

They did it! NASA successfully lanuched the Ares 1-X this afternoon. The rocket, a prototype for NASAs future shuttle, is the tallest ever built and nearly reached hypersonic speed.

Mission managers watch as the Ares 1-X launches from NASA Kennedy in Cape Canaveral, FL.

Paul Baribeau - Hard Work from his album Grand Ledge

After buying this album from iTunes and downloading it on to my phone, I realized that it sounded very familiar, I just bought the album for the second time. Oh well, I found a new favorite track from Mr. Baribeau. It’s one of those that you can relate to so well, that sharing that information feels utterly cliché. The cost was well worth discovering a new favorite.

Agreed, these guys are absolutely infectious. Edward Sharpe is playing in Kent November 12 at the Kent Stage for those who are interested. Doubt I would be able to make it, but this makes me really miss my roof top listening access to the Stage. Other shows of note: The Digable Planets (nov 4), Medeski Martin & Wood (nov 17) and plenty more.

The Night The Martians Marched On Mississippi : NPR

Judge Joe Pigott and his wife, Lorraine, visited StoryCorps in Jackson, Miss.

When retired Judge Joe Pigott was growing up in Mississippi, he knew that his step-grandfather was an unusual man. A country doctor, “he had no sense of humor whatsoever,” Pigott recalls, “especially when it involved himself.”

And anytime the man known simply as “Doctor” was listening to the radio, “you just did not make a sound,” Pigott says — “especially when the news was on.”

Unfortunately for Doctor, his two quirks betrayed him one night in 1938, when radios around the country blared the news of an erupting “War of the Worlds.”

This is terrific. My favorite Story Corp. story yet. Make sure to read/listen to the rest here.

Temporary Theme

Tumblr seems to have rejected my theme after making some changes tonight. So, while I figure what went wrong I’m using this lovely theme designed by Peter Vidani.
